I can remember my mother. Nokona can’t remember his. He was a puppy mill baby. Most puppy mill dogs are separated from their mother at the earliest moment. Nokona had a little sister. They were weaned (taken from their mom) at five weeks. Too soon I think.
Puppy mills are bad, says Jet (my foster mom). She says mills breed dogs for the sole purpose of making money. These are bad people who don’t care about the health or care of the dogs. Mom says God has a very special place for bad people like these guys. - A very hot mill for humans. Sounds appropriate.
Nokona and I decided to celebrate Mother’s Day by championing some of the mother’s who rescued and/or adopted puppy mill dogs. We supplied some pictures (below) of some of these guys to share with you.
This little guy in Chicago…
This little guy was rescued in Tulsa.
This mini tyke was rescued from a mill in Seattle.
Most of these dogs have known nothing but a tiny square box… until now.
Nokona and I would like to challenge you to celebrate mother’s day (AND father’s day) by adopting a puppy mill dog. It will become one of the best days of your life (and the dog will be really happy too).
Okay, here’s the question of the day from Smitty who asked: Okay, I know I’m not a dog but you seem to give out pretty good advice and I need help. How can I tell the family dog that when I run my beak through his hair that I’m just sharing the love and not trying to hurt him?
Dear Smitty:
Did it dawn upon you that you’re way of “showing the love” might hurt the dog? You know, humans do this sometimes too. They show love for one another in a way that ends up hurting those they care about so much. Only sometimes, just like you preening the dog, it isn’t the proper way to share their love.
