Passion Isn’t Perishable

Jet (my foster mom) says that everyone has a passion for something. She says that passion is really important because if fuels the spirit like faith does the heart or like gasoline ignites the engine of a cool sports car. (Okay, that last metaphor was mine.)

My mom also says passion isn’t perishable so it keeps going and going and going just like the energizer bunny. I watch the happiest humans and they seem to have two things in common: God and a life that enables them to pursue their passion. Some come by this easily, other humans seem to have to make a lot of sacrifices to be able to live their passion.

This brings me to my friend Gizmo. (He’s exploring my neighbor’s new green stuff in the photo below.)

Gizmo is an Italian greyhound. Skinny thing isn’t he? His passion is running, racing to be exact. Greyhounds run like the wind. The problem is that dogs can’t race forever. They get tired, older and their run button doesn’t work as good anymore.

I asked Jet what happens when you can’t enjoy your passion anymore? She said if that happens then you have to either redesign your life to find a new passion or pursue your original passion in a new way. I think that’s what Gizmo did since now he’s gone from having a passion for running to a passion for loving. He has the coolest family and they walk EVERYWHERE. They’re like walk marathoners plus they shower him with ALL sorts of love. Gizmo has a passion for this new life. Do you have a passion for yours?

Okay, here’s the question of the day from Skipper who asked: All the dogs in the neighborhood are really nice. My dad says it’s great. I’m shy so I just find it annoying and I get all jittery. How can I get more comfortable with all the other dogs in the neighborhood?

Dear Skipper:
You do look a little tense in your photo. Let me share something with you that night help. People think my foster mom is super gregarious (word of the day) because she’s comfortable around all types of people and critters. That would be accurate except she is also very private so she doesn’t socialize much. And, as a result she mostly just makes a few close friends. It seems to me Skipper that you don’t have to be friends with ALL the other dogs. Try on just a few friends at a time. I think you’ll find you’re life will be richer and your heart happier.
